Bedtime According to Vixen

A Note from Mom

If you have spent any time here at Healthy Purple Butterflies, you already know about my tiny Head of Support Staff, Vixen. For a seven-pound dog she has a surprisingly large personality and very strong opinions about how things should be done around here.

Bedtime is one of her favorite parts of the day. Most nights she lets me know when she is ready and patiently waits for me to lift her onto the bed since she is just a little too small to jump up on her own.

Recently she had a couple of bedtime adventures that made us laugh so much that I decided it would be best to let her tell the story herself.

So, I will step aside and allow Vixen to file her official report.

A Very Important Bedtime Update

Filed by Vixen, Head of Support Staff

I would like to report a situation regarding bedtime operations in this household.

A few nights ago, Mom and I went to bed early. This is always a very wise decision because bedtime is one of my favorite daily activities. After Mom settled in, I noticed a serious problem on Dad’s side of the bed.

His blankets were not arranged correctly.

Clearly this required immediate attention.

While Mom rested, I carefully moved Dad’s blankets down to the foot of the bed where they belonged. This was not easy work for a dog my size, but I take my responsibilities very seriously. When Dad came to bed later, the blankets were waiting for him exactly where I had placed them.

You’re welcome, Dad.

The following night presented an even greater challenge.

Mom had not yet removed all the bed decorations. Humans seem to believe that a bed must be covered in pillows, fancy pillow covers, throw pillows, and stuffed animals. This makes bedtime unnecessarily complicated.

However, I was already ready for bed.

Dad placed me on the bed before Mom cleared everything off. Once everyone left the room, I realized I would need to solve the problem myself.

I located a small opening and began my mission.

First, I slipped under the sheet. Then I tunneled under the comforter. The pillows and stuffed animals created several obstacles, but I remained determined. After some careful navigation I reached the perfect sleeping spot and settled in.

Mom came in shortly after and could not find me anywhere.

Naturally this caused confusion.

Later when Dad came in, I decided it was time to reveal myself. I lifted my head from under the blankets to greet him properly.

They both seemed surprised.

I am not sure why.

In conclusion, bedtime operations were successfully completed.

The blankets have been reorganized. The obstacles have been navigated. The bed has been properly occupied.

Now if you will excuse me, I have another nap scheduled.

Mom’s Closing Thoughts

One thing I have learned is that life with Vixen is never boring. For such a tiny dog she brings an incredible amount of personality, laughter, and comfort into our home.

Whether she is rearranging blankets or tunneling under a mountain of pillows just to find the perfect sleeping spot, she always manages to make us smile.

I have a feeling this will not be the last report our Head of Support Staff files.
